Hiking holiday in Kaprun

Hiking holiday in Kaprun

Kaprun offers the right hiking and mountaineering experience for all mountain lovers, regardless of age. Whether high alpine or over gentle grassy mountains, hiking in Kaprun opens up great destinations for every mountain lover in a unique landscape!

Imbachhorn route Kaprun

A beautiful circular trail of medium difficulty from the Kitzsteinhorn valley station Panoramabahn to the Imbachhorn (summit: 2,470 m) leads you directly to your First IN Mountain Chalet after the descent. In the morning, take bus 660 from the Maiskogel car park or town centre to the Kitzsteinhorn terminus.
From the top Gletscherbahn (Kitzsteinhorn) car park, trail no. 724 leads uphill through beautiful high and mixed forests to the unmanaged Harleitenalm and on via the Harleiten to the Brandlscharte. Here you can decide whether to take the right path up to the Rettenzink or the left path to the Imbachhorn.
Continue across beautiful alpine meadows to the 2,470 m high Imbachhorn and back to Kaprun. The view of the Zeller See lake always accompanies you. Back to Kaprun, Imbachsteig no. 723 leads you from the east and directly into Peter-Buchner-Str. to your chalet.

Hiking trails in Kaprun for families with children

The Maiskogel family hiking area offers hiking holidays for the whole family directly from the centre of Kaprun. Some paths are also perfectly accessible with a pushchair.
You hike from the centre of town across the alpine meadows along the Maiskogelbahn or comfortably master the first metres in altitude with the comfortable 10-person MK Maiskogelbahn cable car, even in summer, up to 1,570 metres. The mountain station with a small wooden playground is the perfect starting point for walks, easy hikes and also longer tours.
Varied hiking trails on lush green alpine pastures can be found on the Maiskogel family mountain. The tours on offer range from panoramic circular paths to adventurous hiking trails. You can hike comfortably with the whole family to the rustic alpine huts and every step is accompanied by magnificent views.

Hiking around the Klammsee in Kaprun

You will find an easy circular hiking trail around the Speicher Klammsee - a popular destination for those seeking recreation with a Kneipp facility and children's playground. Visitors walk along the narrow rock walls over wooden footbridges and numerous bridges. The roaring white water of the Kapruner Ache is a fascinating natural spectacle that you should not miss!
You can reach the entrance to the Sigmund Thun Gorge by bus 660. On foot from your First IN Mountain Chalet, take the bus in the direction of the Kitzsteinhorn at the Maiskogelbahn cable car or in the centre of town and get off at the bus stop Kaprun Sigmund Thun Gorge.
14,000 years ago, a glacier covered the entire Kaprun valley - the melted glacier left behind this valley incision through which the Kaprun Ache flowed.
Route: From the main powerhouse (Krafthausstrasse), the trail leads along the Achensteig to the left side. Along the Ache to the entrance of the Sigmund Thun gorge. The wooden path through the Sigmund Thun gorge is only open in summer. In slightly ascending serpentines you reach the road and continue over the Belinzky Bridge. Stay on the right side of the gorge, pass the building of the self-supply plant and hike to the end of the lake. Here you will find a kiosk with toilet facilities, a playground and a fitness course. Now cross the footbridge and reach the left side of the lake. The path leads out of the valley again, past natural history information boards and wetland biotopes, to a glacier mill. Now you descend into the gorge, where you cross the Ache again. After about 100 m, you will reach the road on the right-hand side, which will take you back to your starting point.

Hiking in Kaprun to the high mountain reservoirs

The hike starts directly at the Alpenhaus Kesselfall. Here you follow a beautiful hiking trail that leads past the Lärchwand lift on the left.
When you reach the first reservoir, the Wasserfallboden, you can enjoy the wonderful view for the first time. The landscape is breathtakingly beautiful: green areas, colourful alpine flowers and several waterfalls. After the Wasserfallboden reservoir, you will pass the Fürthermoaralm. Here you can stop for a delicious Brettljause. Continue along the herb and nature trail in the direction of Mooserboden. You will learn a lot about local herbs while enjoying the view of the surrounding peaks of the Hohe Tauern.

After about 35 minutes you reach the Mooserboden reservoir. The dam wall at Mooserboden is 500 metres long and 107 metres high. The high mountain reservoir is the ideal starting point for high alpine tours such as to the Grießkogel, Hocheiser or large Wiesbachhorn. Climbing fans will also find their terrain here: there are three via ferratas, which were built in the massive rock of the Höhenburg. Different levels of difficulty create climbing experiences for professionals and beginners. Guided tours or tours of the dam wall through the interior are also offered. So there is a lot to discover during your hiking holiday in Kaprun!

Guided hikes for experienced mountaineers

If you set out on a guided hike in Kaprun and join a hiking or mountain guide, you have a good chance of seeing the most beautiful places and learning interesting facts about the region, fauna and flora. Tips on particularly beautiful vantage points and places to stop for refreshments are included. Especially if you want to start from your First IN Mountain Chalet to a summit or into the breathtaking world of the Hohe Tauern, it is best to entrust yourself to a mountain guide. In the high mountains, local knowledge and experience are two important factors.

Among other things, high alpinists should undertake a summit tour to the 3,203 m high Kitzsteinhorn during their Kaprun hiking holiday. At the top, you will feel the power of the high alpine summit world and the intense feeling of freedom. Secured by a rope and accompanied by a certified mountain guide, you will experience your 3,000-metre summit happiness after an ascent of 200 metres in altitude (approx. 1 hour).
