Swimming in Zell am See and Kaprun

Spend your holiday in Kaprun at the lake

Holiday with lake

The days are long, the best time of year for summer holidays between mountain, lake and glacier. Early in the day it's especially good to get some exercise. Get out of the First IN Mountain Chalet and go for a jog on the country paths, then lift a few weights in the chalet's own fitness room and strengthen your back muscles with pull-ups, then stretch your muscles again. That's how the day can start, in a good mood I go to the relaxation programme. I deliberately chose the Kaprun-Zell am See region for my holiday with a lake. Jumping into the cool water is a must for me on my summer holiday. Swimming in Zell am See and swimming in Kaprun always knows to impress.

Bathing lakes around Kaprun

Around Kaprun you will find great bathing lakes, here are a few tips for your holiday with a lake.

Lake Zell within easy reach

Only five minutes by car from your First IN Mountain Chalet you are already at the Zeller See. With its location and crystal-clear water, Lake Zell is one of the most beautiful lakes in Austria. In summer it reaches pleasant water temperatures of around 23 degrees and offers both sporting opportunities and relaxation. And also away from the lakeshore there are numerous water sports for a varied summer holiday in Salzburger Land.
Especially in summer, Lake Zell is the centre of the region. You can explore the region from the water while swimming, sailing and surfing. From no other place can you enjoy better views of nature and the mountains than from the middle of the lake.

  • Bathing holiday at Lake Zell
In summer you can enjoy a great time at the lidos in Zell am See, Thumersbach and Schüttdorf. Heated pools, diving towers, water trampolines or giant slides as well as children's playgrounds are just a few highlights next to the large sunbathing lawns and bathing areas - a hit for all water rats and sun worshippers.
  • Water and action sports on Lake Zell
Whether surfing, stand-up paddling, bananaboat, kayak or pedal boat: variety on the water is guaranteed. The panoramic tours on board the boats "MS Schmittenhöhe" and "Kaiserin Elisabeth" offers particularly beautiful views over Lake Zell. There are also numerous providers for canyoning and rafting away from Lake Zell - pure action.
  • Fishing in the Pinzgau
Patience and tranquillity, along with a bit of luck, are important factors when fishing on Lake Zell. You can fish for whitefish, pike, perch, char, zander and lake trout in Lake Zell from April to November. Whether from the boat or the shore, you are fishing in one of the purest lakes in Austria. You can find all important information about fishing in the fishing folder of the municipality. Get your fish menu right away at Sport Achleitner, at the Seewirt restaurant, at the Fishing Team or at Bräurup and enjoy the sunrise on Lake Zell in peace and quiet.

Niedernsill bathing lake

The idyllically situated natural bathing lake with its spacious sunbathing lawns is the centre of attraction for water rats of all ages.

Our little ones can let off steam in the heated children's paddling pool or in the separate non-swimmer area with water slide.
The bathing complex with a water surface of 16,000 m² and a sunbathing area of 15,000 m² is very idyllic and quiet. The water temperature in summer is around 24 °C.
Directly adjacent are the protected landscape area "Lucia Lacke" and the leisure centre. The leisure centre has something to offer for young and old. There are tennis courts, a mini-golf course, a stick shooting range, archery courts, two beach volleyball courts, three slacklines at different heights and a multi-purpose court where - depending on the season - you can play ice hockey, street soccer or basketball.
Since 2012, the bathing lake has been home to the "Luziapark". Wooden platforms and hammocks above the water invite you to relax. The more adventurous will find a monkey swing and two slacklines for balancing above the water.
Directly at the bathing lake there is the restaurant "Die Libelle" with a large terrace where Nenad and his team spoil their guests with fish, meat, pizzas, salads and ice cream specialities.

Mountain lakes in the Pinzgau

Still waters in the high mountains - The true treasure of the Hohe Tauern is the unique landscape. This also includes the many mountain lakes. In the area of the Hohe Tauern National Park, the largest protected area in the Alps, there are 550 larger and smaller mountain lakes. They present themselves in the most diverse colours from crystal blue to emerald green. Hikers and mountaineers can cool off and relax at these mountain lakes, which are of drinking water quality. Taking a break on their shores and enjoying the beauty of nature is a special mountain experience.

The Klammsee in Kaprun

The narrow gorge opens up to reveal the Klammsee and the surrounding mountains. We do another lap around the lake before returning to our First IN Mountain Chalet in Kaprun and can hardly get enough of the green nature and the water, which shimmers in all facets from crystal clear to turquoise blue to dark red. Some joggers and Nordic walkers take advantage of the warm spring day for their training. We take a more leisurely approach and stop at some information boards that explain the flora and fauna of the region in more detail.
Arriving on the other side of the river, the children immediately swarm to the children's playground and try their hand at the fitness trail. In the Klammstüberl in a wonderful sunny location, you can comfortably sip coffee, lick ice cream or enjoy a freshly smoked trout. If you want to revive your spirits, the best thing to do is to go to the shallow tributary to the Klammsee. The natural Kneipp facility refreshes with clear mountain water and revives tired legs. After completing the lake circuit, you can return to the car park via the wide footpath or alternatively via a path. We end a great day of excursions on our holiday with lake in the First IN Mountain Chalet in Kaprun comfortably on our veranda with a glass of wine.
